Urban development. Initial the city consists of three seperate settlements which gradually grew together. In the south of the castle lies 'Stari trg' (old market), on the left bank of the Ljubljanica there is 'Novi trg' (new market) and in the north of the castle-hill lies the part of the town called 'Mesto' (city).

The road network in the area of 'Stari trg' arised from the triangular surface area between the Ljubljanica and the southern slope of the castle-hill.
In front of the church and along the street which snuggles up to the hill emerge squares.
